He was the youngest of three children. He grew up at their farm in Portage la Prairie. His father was from Berlin, and travelled to Canada as a child.

Raymond joinded the Reserve Army in April 1941 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1941. He completed his basic training in Winnipeg en left in January 1942 to the RAF base Chatham in England. Early 1943 he was stationed at the 22e Operational Training Unit in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. After March 1943 he was part of the 428e squadron in Dalton.

Buried: R.K. Begraafplaats in Deurningen.

Awarded with the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal, the 1939-1945 Star and the Europe Star.

Remembered at the Bomber Command Memorial Wall in Nanton, Alberta.
