Ernest grew up with his father and older sister Miriam in Shipley. His father was a wholegrain merchant. His mother died in 1910 and his father then remarried with Nellie Watson who deceased in 1931. Ernest later on lived together with his sister in Bradford.

In September of 1939 all men between the age of 18 en 41 years old, were called to duty. When Ernest enlisted is still unknow. Based on his socialnumber the found out that he joined the English resident at Malta in June of 1940.

Buried: Protestante Begraafplaats in Denekamp.

Awarded with the War Medal, the 1939-1945 Star and the Europe Star.
