McMillan, Allan Robert (Engels)

Allan was the youngest in the family with six children. He grew up on their farm at Port Arthur. He was a ship’s mechanic.

He enlisted as a soldier in January 1943. Because he was too young his father had to give his consent. He first served as a reserve and in August 1944 he went overseas with the Lake Superior Regiment .There were already two brothers at the Lake Superior Regiment, one brother at the Royal Candian Air Force and a sister at the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. They all survived the war.

Allan was seriously injured on 11 April 1945 during battles near the German Sögel, including serious head injuries. He died three days later in the Canadian Military Hospital in Ootmarsum.

Temporary grave at the Kuiperberg Ootmarsum until April 1946.

Buried: Canadian War Cemetery in Holten, box X, row G no. 9.

Awarded with the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal, the 1939-1945 Star and the France-Germany Star.
