Fallon, Francis Michael (Engels)

Francis was the youngest of a family of five children, he grew up in Whitby. His father was an Irish immigrant, his mother was born in England. She already died in 1927, after that his father remarried Emma Holmes. Francis worked at a sawmill.

He came into service in November 1943 at the Ottawa Highlanders to Kingston. There also were two brothers in the Canadian Army Corps. Francis went overseas in July 1944, where he was assigned to the Lake Superior Regiment.

He was seriously injured on April 13, 1945 during the Battle of Friesoythe, a town near German Cloppenburg, and was taken to the Canadian Military Hospital in Ootmarsum, where he died the same day. 

Temporary grave at the Kuiperberg Ootmarsum until April 1946.

Buried: Canadian War Cemetery in Holten, box X, row G no. 7.

Awarded with the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal, the 1939-1945 Star and the France-Germany Star.
