Eduard lived with his wife at 38 Waldeckstraat in Enschede. He was a garbage dealer. He previously lived with his wife in Wroclaw, Poland, where their three children were born. He came from a family with seven children, two of whom died young. His mother died when he was four years old, his father died in 1906.
Eduard was hiding with three others with the Smienk family at 18 Spinnersweg in Hengelo. They were betrayed and on September 7, 1944, in a raid by the S.D. arrested. Jacob Meijers came to the hospital tipsy, from which he managed to escape. Eduard, Herman van Coevorden and Jeanette Meijers-Spier were transferred to Twente airport where they, together with three other Jewish people in hiding, were executed and buried on 27 September.
It was not until three years later, in October 1947, that his remains – along with those of eleven other prisoners – were taken on the instructions of the captured S.D. Chief Schöber was found near the bunkers on the Weerselose part of the airport.
His wife arrived in Westerbork transit camp on 26 March 1943. She was transported to the Sobibor concentration camp on 18 May, where she was killed shortly after arrival. Their three children had gone into hiding before. They agreed that if they were picked up, whoever was closest to the door would open it. The other would flee so that at least one parent would remain for the children.
