Archie was the youngest of six children. He grew up in Burrough-on-the-Hill and later on moved tot Perry Barr in Birmingham, where his father was a vicar.

He was the oldest and most experienced crewmember. He joined the English Airforce in the twenties and in 1929 RAF send him to India. In August 1937 he joined the 228e squadron, homebase Pembroke Dock. Then he got stationed at Oran, Algeria. Because of the experience after this travels in August 1938 he got promoted to squadronleader (major).

The 228e squadron got merged with the 210e squadron. Here he survived a crash with two young pilots in September 1938 during a midnight trainingsflight with the flyingplane ‘Sunderland’at Milford Harbour. Two other crewmembers drowned.

His brother Cecil James was an officer at RAF, he survived the war.

Buried: Protestante Begraafplaats in Denekamp.

Awarded with the War Medal, the 1939-1945 Star and the Europe Star.
