Kenyon and his brother were born in Eastbourne. In 1922 they emigrated to Canada, where his father was a farmer. From 1925 to 1927 they lived for a short period in England, after that they went to Canada again. In 1936 the family returned to England. The relationship of his parents was not a happy one, partly caused by the restlessness of his father. Kenyon’s father was in the First World War an officer in the RAF and probably there he contracted the necessary trauma.

Based on his servicenumber Kenyon entered the Royal Air Force Voluntair Reserve Pilots in Januar 1937.
